August Is Best Month of Racing in UHC History

9/04/2012

Team UnitedHealthcare had the best month of racing in its ten-year history in August. Competing in the U.S. and Europe, the team racked up six stage wins, three team classification wins, numerous top-ten finishes and several special classification jerseys.

Rory Sutherland won the first stage of the Tour of Utah, while Jake Keough took the victory in Stage 4. Jeff Louder was named the Tour’s Best Rider. Across the Atlantic, UHC riders won three stages of the Tour of Portugal: Jay Thomson topped the podium in Stage 1, Jason McCartney took the victory in Stage 6 and Kai Reus won Stage 7. Sutherland capped the month with another victory, in Stage 6 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.

“Altitude and attitude. That’s what we faced in August and how we approached it,” said Mike Tamayo, UHC’s general manager and team director. “We made a decision we were going to tackle the high altitude tests of Utah, Colorado and Portugal with a tenacity and confidence that would be second to none. We were going for stage wins, and we were going to leave everything we had on the course, in the mountains, chasing down breaks, sprint for wins, solo off the front, and do whatever it takes to cross that line first. Just execute as close to perfection as you can, and good things will happen.”

Maxxis congratulates Team UnitedHealthcare on its winning month and wishes them the best in their upcoming races.
