Borich Takes 7th GNCC Win

6/26/2012

Points leader Chris Borich continues to dominate the GNCC series, with a seventh victory in eight races. Round 8 was held June 24 in Snowshoe, West Virginia.

Borich grabbed the lead in the last lap from fellow Maxxis rider Brian Wolf, who had led for much of the race. A mechanical difficulty then forced Wolf from the race with three miles to go. Borich was grateful for the performance of his Razr and Razr2 tires: "The tires worked awesome. There were just gnarly rocks, slick uphills, slick downhills, and I just can't thank Maxxis enough. They make the best tire out there. They're so predicable when it's slick, rough, or even muddy."

Another rider sponsored by Maxxis, XC1 Pro rookie Walker Fowler, joined Borich on the podium in third place, while Taylor Kiser took fifth place. "I got a good start and went into the woods third,” said Fowler. “Wolf was going like a madman, so I tried to latch onto him, and I hung with him for about a lap. I ended up tanking it in a real bad mudhole on the third lap and losing about two minutes. I just calmed down, relaxed and put my head down and rode my race. The tires were hooking up awesome. It was slick as all get-out out there, with tree roots and rocks, and I didn't have a single flat." Borich, Kiser and Fowler are first, second and third in XC1 standings, and Wolf is seventh.

Gabe Phillips took his fourth class win of the year in XC2 Pro Am, and is also fourth in class standings. In the morning race, Traci Cecco won the Women’s class race by a whopping 12 minutes. She now leads the class by five points for the championship. Michael Swift took second in 4x4 Open and eighth overall, on Ceros tires. He is still second in class points.

Maxxis congratulates Chris Borich and Gabe Phillips on their victories and thanks all of its riders for their fine performances.
