Forsberg Wins Formula Drift Championship, Tuerck Wins Round 7

10/20/2009

Chris Forsberg has ridden Maxxis to the Formula Drift championship, clinching his title at the seventh and final round of the season. Judgment Day was held October 16-17 in Irwindale, California.

Forsberg racked up a total of 527 points during the year. His performance at Irwindale also netted Forsberg the Tires.com Triple Crown, which is based on the results of Rounds 2, 5 and 7. “We’re just so happy to have finally taken the championship,” said Forsberg. “We’ve come so close a few times in years past, just knowing coming into Saturday with [second place driver] Ryan Tuerck, knowing that it was a guaranteed Maxxis championship was great. The MA-Z1 has been flawless every year, and we just kept improving the car so that it would match the tire, and it all came together this year. The Tires.com Triple Crown was just icing on the cake.” Forsberg is the first driver in the series’ history to win both the championship and the Triple Crown.

With 521 points overall, Tuerck holds second place in championship standings. Tuerck took the victory at Round 7, besting other drivers through the round of 32.

Maxxis congratulates Chris Forsberg on his championship and Ryan Tuerck on his victory and thanks both drivers for their outstanding performances throughout the season.
