Jonnier Wins World Cup Downhill #3

5/18/2009

The event might be downhill, but Sabrina Jonnier has raced to the top of the UCI rankings with two consecutive World Cup victories. Jonnier took her most recent win at the third race in the downhill series, held May 17 in Vallnord, Andorra.

The Maxxis-Rocky Mountain rider completed her run on the bumpy course in 2.41.58 minutes, nearly four seconds faster than the second place rider. Jonnier had a winning weekend: A day earlier, she also won the qualifying run by more than two seconds. "I'm super happy," Jonnier told cyclingnews.com.  "I felt good all week here, and in the final even stronger than last week.  But I was also extremely nervous, as I do not normally qualify well, so I was feeling the pressure.  But I felt very comfortable on this track, and confident with the way my bike was set up.  It's great to be back in the World Cup lead, after an only average ride in South Africa." Jonnier has 2,267 points in UCI’s overall standings, with a 67-point lead over the next rider.

Maxxis congratulates Sabrina Jonnier on her victory and thanks her for proving once again that Maxxis is the brand of champions.
