Mt. Hood: OUCH/Maxxis’ Baldwin Wins Time Trial, 2nd Overall

6/08/2009

Winds of up to 30 miles per hour couldn’t stop Chris Baldwin at Stage 2 of the Mount Hood Cycling Classic. The Team OUCH Presented by Maxxis rider won the time trial in 42:44 minutes, three seconds ahead of the next racer. Baldwin, who was again on the podium a day later at Stage 3, where he took second place, was also second overall at Mount Hood. The race was held June 3-7 in Hood River, Oregon.

“The wind just kinda rips down the gorge,” Baldwin said. “It’s hard to do a race like that when you feel like a human sail. But everyone had to deal with the same conditions. When it’s like that, the race becomes a mental exercise. You have to keep your focus and not let it break your concentration. I was really pleased with my ride today, not necessarily physically, but my focus and my pace felt the best it has in a couple years. I felt like I got the best out of myself today.”

Baldwin was joined on the Stage 2 podium by teammate Jonathon Chodroff, who took third place. Both competed on the Maxxis Columbiere: With its grooved slick design, the Columbiere allows riders to move fast, while the 2-ply nylon breaker provides outstanding puncture resistance.

Maxxis congratulates Chris Baldwin on his victory and thanks Jonathon Chodroff for his outstanding performance.
