UHC’s Förster and Keough Win Air Force Cycling Classic Cups

6/11/2012

Team UnitedHealthcare’s Robert Förster and Jake Keough topped podiums at two separate Air Force Cycling Classic Cups. Förster won the Clarendon Cup, held June 9 in Arlington, Virginia, while Keough took first place at the Crystal City Cup, held June 10 in Crystal City, Virginia.

UHC’s Blue Train worked together seamlessly at the Clarendon Cup, with a perfectly timed lead-out helping Förster cross the finish line. The triumph was even sweeter in light of the difficulty of the course and the top-notch caliber of the other riders. ““We haven’t been so lucky as of late, but we always make sure we are working as a team to put ourselves in the best position to win,” said Förster. “Our team is dangerous, and we raced with a lot of motivation today as we were racing for the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation. I was a bit surprised being in the top group after 30 laps. This was a tough race, with 500 curves on a very hot day. At the end though, our Blue Train worked super and put me in a position to bring the thing home for our team.” Another rider sponsored by Maxxis also made the Clarendon Cup podium, as Team TIBCO’s Kendall Ryan took second place in the women’s race, a finish that helped to secure the team’s first-place status in the NCC women’s rankings.

Keough took his win the following day, with teammate Hilton Clarke joining him on the podium in second place. Again, teamwork proved to be the key to the podium for UHC, according to General Manager Mike Tamayo: “Our lead-out was dialed in today. The responsibility was on our shoulders to control the race and the boys executed to perfection.”

Maxxis congratulates Robert Förster and Jake Keough on their victories and thanks Hilton Clarke and all of the riders of Team UnitedHealthcare for their fine performances.
