Wimmer Takes AMA ATV MX Championship
8/18/2009Maxxis rider Dustin Wimmer rode Razrs to a second straight AMA ATV MX title at the Dirt Days National. Capping a season which saw him take six victories, Wimmer’s fourth place finish clinched his championship. The series’ final round of the year was held August 15-16 at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
Wimmer battled back from an early-season shoulder injury to win the championship. "This was quite a year," he told team sponsor Yoshimura. "I had some bad luck getting hurt, and it took everything to get back those points. Luckily, I've got a great team and a great quad. We really worked hard for this championship, and I feel really great. Today, I had a lot of adrenaline going, so I had to work at just riding smart and safe." Wimmer accumulated 419 points during the season, 43 more than his nearest rival.
Teammate Doug Gust also had an outstanding season, finishing fourth in the championship standings. Gust racked up three second place spots on the podium during the year, along with one third place showing.
“Maxxis has been supporting Dustin since he was riding ‘A’ class back in 2002, and over the years I’ve been very proud of how he has grown into a true champion in every sense,” said Harry Tripp, assistant manager of Maxxis’ specialty department. “Dustin is obviously a superb racer. He worked extremely hard to get to the top of the national ATV motocross scene in 2008 and has worked even harder to stay there. Dustin is a true professional, and we at Maxxis are fortunate to work with many racers like him, who represent everything good about the great sport of ATV racing, both on and off the track.”
Maxxis congratulates Dustin Wimmer on his championship and thanks all of its riders for their fine performances throughout the season.
