3rd straight GNCC win for Fowler

3RD STRAIGHT GNCC WIN FOR FOWLER AT MAXXIS CANNONBALL GNCC

Walker Fowler continued his quest for a three-peat GNCC championship with a victory at Round 3, the Maxxis Cannonball. The win was his third in as many races, giving him a 22-point edge in the series’ overall standings. Fellow Maxxis rider and racing legend Chris Borich joined Fowler on the podium in third place at Round 3, held March 25 in Sparta, Georgia.

Fowler overcame a challenging start, making steady progress and eventually joining the front group of riders. Often led by Maxxis’ sponsored rider Brycen Neal, this group, which included Borich, battled and traded positions through much of the race. Although he was dogged toward the end by the loss of his front brakes, Fowler took a comfortable lead by making a pass across a creek bed. His final lap was the fastest of the race, and he won by a 30-second margin. Borich and Neal crossed the finish line just a few seconds apart for third and fourth place. Neal and Borich are currently third and fourth respectively in GNCC standings.

The fact that he can trust his Maxxis tires is always helpful to Fowler, as he noted after the race: “I’ve been with [Maxxis] since about 2006 or 2007, through my youth rank, and [I’ve] come up through the amateur ranks a Maxxis rider, my semi-pro as a Maxxis rider and now as a pro rider as a Maxxis rider…These tires are second to none. I can’t imagine running anything else.”

Also topping Saturday’s podium was the mother and son duo of Alicia and Layne McCormick. The elder McCormick won the WXC class, while Layne rode Maxxis to his first-ever youth overall victory.

Maxxis congratulates Walker Fowler, Alicia McCormick and Layne McCormick on their victories, and thanks Chris Borich, Brycen Neal, and all of its riders for their fine performances.
