Maxxis Appalachian Summit Showcases New Tires for Industry and Media

Georgia’s Chattahoochee National Forest was the setting when industry and media leaders gathered to try Maxxis’ newest bicycle treads and technology, as fans can see in a video just posted to YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlpmxGya1t4. The first-ever Maxxis Appalachian Summit was held April 1-3 at the Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-a-Way in Ellijay, Georgia.

Joined by Pivot Cycles, which supplied bikes for the weekend’s testing and recreational riding, Maxxis compared some of its newest tires with popular classic models. The Ardent, Ikon and Ardent Race were tested alongside the newer Forekaster, Crossmark II, and Pace in the cross country category. For enduro and trail, Maxxis’ Minion DHF, DHR II, and High Roller II faced off against new patterns on the Aggressor, Tomahawk and the wide-trail-designed Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. Attendees were also able to compare traditional EXO casing tires to the same pattern in the construction of the new DoubleDown, and were the first to spend time on the new plus-bike Minion DHF, DHR II, and High Roller II tires, all sized at 27.5×2.80.

The setting and the atmosphere were relaxed, but attendees were on the move throughout the weekend, with repeated shuttle runs down the Pinhoti trail during the day and nights riding the freshly cut Loam Factory trail on the grounds at Mulberry Gap. When finished with the day’s riding, the group enjoyed home-cooked meals in the venue’s comfy, couch-laden barn and later gathered around a bonfire.

Champion rider Aaron Chase, who is sponsored by both Maxxis and Pivot Cycles, also attended the Summit, along with Pivot Cycles CEO Chris Cocalis. Other sponsors for the weekend included Terrapin Beer Company, Stan’s No Tubes, and Clif Bar

The weekend was such a hit with invitees that Maxxis looks forward to hosting a second event next spring. Maxxis thanks Pivot Cycles, Terrapin Beer Company, Stan’s No Tubes, Clif Bar, the staff at Mulberry Gap, and everyone who attended for making the Maxxis Appalachian Summit such a success, and invites fans to take a closer look at a recap on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlpmxGya1t4.
