Tyre Reviews Ultimate Summer Tyre Test 2020

Best subjective dry handling, best wet handling, best subjective wet handling, 2nd best tyre for resistance to aquaplaning. Excellent results for the Premitra 5 tyre.

The 2020 Tyre Reviews Ultimate Summer Tyre Test tested twelve summer tyres in size 205/55 R16 on a 1.4L VW Golf to determine the strengths and weaknesses of each tyre.

A range of tyres were tested, from the premium Continental PremiumContact 6, Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2, Michelin Primacy 4, Bridgestone Turanza T005 and Pirelli Cinturato P7 C2, to the not-so-premium Uniroyal Rainsport 5, Nokian WetProof and Goodride RP28.

The Maxxis Premitra 5 achieved better results than any other tyre in the test when it came to: subjective dry handling; wet handling; and subjective wet handling. It was the only tyre in this test to achieve 3x first-place results.

As a result, the Maxxis Premitra 5 was classed as a ‘Recommended’ tyre.

Auto Zeitung Summer Tyre Test 2020

'Highly Recommended' and 'Recommendation for Value' by Auto Zeitung in 2020

Auto Zeitung, one of the most highly-regarded motoring magazines in Germany, has conducted a 20-tyre test of 225/50 R17 summer tyres and concluded that the Maxxis Premitra HP5 is ‘very recommended’ and the ‘recommendation for value’.

The test, made up of wet and dry handling and braking, aquaplaning, slalom, noise and rolling resistance test, with additional point-based assessments for comfort and driving safety, is a comprehensive evaluation of the current summer tyre market.

The Maxxis Premitra 5 achieved the best result in dry handling, and the third-best result in the slalom test and the wet handling test, beaten in wet handling only by the competitor tyres awarded first and second place in the tyre test overall (Continental PremiumContact 6 and the Michelin Primacy 4).

Looking at the points, Maxxis achieved an excellent fourth place overall, and was awarded not only the ‘very recommended’ label but also the ‘recommendation for value’.

“Maxxis offers a balance of inexpensive and good performance…” – Paul Englert, Auto Zeitung [translated]

The tyre was also found to be reassuring to drive, rated as the tyre with the safest feel in the dry and the third safest feel in the wet when compared with all the other tyres in the test.

“We work hard to ensure that every Maxxis tyre is the perfect combination of value and performance, and the Auto Zeitung tyre test proves this. We are very pleased that the purpose of our products are reflected in the results of these tests.” – Rudy Versteeg, Managing Director, Maxxis R&D Technical Centre Europe

Maxxis Premitra 5 'Highly Recommended' in ADAC Summer Tyre Test 2020

Following a 12-month tyre test, ADAC concluded that both the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 and the Premitra 5 are both ‘highly recommended’ and have achieved second and third place respectively in their separate tests.

The tyre test was carried out by ADAC, German automobile club, plus other auto clubs and consumer protection organisations globally. The test, lasting 12 months, took wet and dry handling, braking, comfort and noise into account, with a fuel consumption assessment and a wear percentage awarded based on over 10,000km of use.

The Maxxis Premitra 5 HP5 was included in the 235/55 R17 103W test, and was one of only four tyres to be awarded the ‘highly recommended’ rating. The HP5 scored very well across the board, achieving a joint 3rd place in its final grade.
