The Victra Sport 5 VS5 Ultra-High-Performance Tyre

The affordable fast road car and track day tyre, proven to compete with the premiums.

The Victra Sport 5 ultra-high-performance sports tyre is designed for hot hatchbacks, sports cars and other fast road or track-day cars.

It offers incredible handling grip and enables you to translate horsepower to the ground with minimal wheel-spin. Its sticky compound is surprisingly long-lasting, too.

The Victra Sport 5 is a sports tyre, designed not for comfort or longevity (though it does offer both of those things), but prioritises grip, braking power, acceleration and the ultimate handling experience. Don’t believe us? Read on.

2020 Auto Bild SUV Summer Tyre Test

An SUV test including mud traction test, the Victra Sport 5 achieved the best results for mud traction, second-best for aquaplaning resistance and third in price.

The 2020 Auto Bild AllRad SUV / 4×4 tyre test put the Victra Sport 5 to the test along with premium competitors such as the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 SUV, and the Pirelli Scorpion Verde and many more, in size 255/55 R18.

The Maxxis Victra Sport 5 achieved first place for mud traction, second place for resistance to aquaplaning (beaten just by the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyre) and third place for price, standing out as one of the most affordable tyres in the test.

AMS 18" Summer Tyre Test 2020

The Victra Sport 5 was the most affordable tyre to finish in the top half of the leaderboard in this test.

German motoring publication Auto Motor und Sport, conducted a tyre test of 11 premium and mid-range 225/45 R18 summer tyres to determine how they compared to each other. The Maxxis Victra Sport 5 rivalled its premium competitors in most areas and was the most affordable set of tyres in the top half of the leaderboard.

The AMS tyre test was conducted with a 3-Series BMW across a range of test areas from wet and dry braking, handling and subjective driver feedback to aquaplaning, comfort, noise and rolling resistance, finally taking the price into consideration too.

These tests results show that the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 has a higher dry average handling speed than the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5; higher subjective driver scores in handling and comfort than the other mid-range tyres in the test, faster average wet handling speeds than the Continental PremiumContact 6, Pirelli P Zero PZ4 and Bridgestone Turanza T005, all for 15% less on price than its nearest premium rival, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, and a whopping 43% cheaper than the most expensive tyre on the test.

This makes for an affordable ultra-high-performance tyre perfect for sports cars, hot hatches or even daily drivers, for fractions of the cost of its rivals.

ADAC Summer Tyre Test 2020

This test awarded the Continental PremiumContact 6 and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 joint 1st place, and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 and the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 joint 3rd.

The annual ADAC test results have been released following a 12-month tyre test, concluding that both the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 and the Premitra HP5 are both ‘highly recommended’ and have achieved second and third place respectively in their separate tests.

The tyre test was carried out by ADAC, German automobile club, plus other auto clubs and consumer protection organisations globally. The test, lasting 12 months, took wet and dry handling, braking, comfort and noise into account, with a fuel consumption assessment and a wear percentage awarded based on over 10,000km of use.

The Maxxis Victra Sport 5 was tested, featuring in the 225/40/ R18 92Y category, and was again one of just four tyres to receive the ‘highly recommended’ rating. The VS5 scored well across the board, with excellence in wear and comfort/noise, earning the Maxxis tyre a joint 2nd place final grade in this test.

“[The Maxxis Victra Sport 5 is a] very balanced tyre. Top grade in wear. Top marks for noise. Good on wet and dry roads.” – ADAC Summer Tyre Test 2020 (225/40 R18 92Y) [translated]

“The performance is very well balanced across both tyres in both tests. This was our goal as part of the R&D process and we are pleased to have the test results to reflect the all-round strength of our tyres.” – Rudy Versteeg, Managing Director, Maxxis R&D Technical Centre Europe

The Maxxis Victra Sport 5 is available in a range of sizes from 17” – 19”, suitable for a range of VW, Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes and BMW vehicles.

Evo Ultra-High-Performance Summer Tyre Test 2019

Had the Victra Sport 5 been formally included in the test, it "would have beaten the Pirelli [P Zero] to the top spot".

At the beginning of the year, Evo magazine requested Maxxis’ latest high-performance car tyre, the Victra Sport 5, as part of its tyre test. The results were published last month [September 2019], showing that Maxxis would have beaten the Pirelli P Zero to the top spot had it been available to buy wholesale at the time.

  • Maxxis Victra Sport 5 ultra-high-performance tyre ranked 99.1% in Evo tyre test
  • Closest performance: Pirelli P Zero ranked 97.9% in Evo tyre test
  • Maxxis tyres tested have the same spec as wholesale batch from same quarter

Evo magazine undertook a detailed tyre test earlier this year, testing a range of ultra-high-performance tyres from a variety of brands including Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear and more. The test covered wet and dry handling, wet circling, braking, aquaplaning and a general road test.

The Maxxis Victra Sport 5, the tyre pitted against the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in another test in 2018 and proving itself as a very competitive high-performance tyre, has now not only competed admirably against the Michelin but also the Pirelli high-performance offering, the P Zero, as of the Evo tyre test.

The results published in Evo placed the Pirelli in the top spot, achieving an overall score of 97.9%. However, had the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 been available in the tested size to purchase wholesale in the UK at the time of the test, it would have been victorious, having been given a score of 99.1%, and up to 25% cheaper than the Pirelli competitor.

The tyres tested were from the same production batch as a range of other sizes available in the UK, with the results of the test underpinning the Maxxis proposition of quality tyres at an affordable price. The Victra Sport 5 is available to buy across an ever-expanding range of sizes from most tyre dealers nationwide and across Europe.
