Minnaar Wins 5th Fort William World Cup, Ties with Peat

Minnaar 2015

An unpredictable course didn’t stop Greg Minnaar from setting a record over the weekend with the fifth Fort William World Cup win of his career. Minnaar’s 17th overall World Cup victory also tied teammate Steve Peat’s record for overall World Cup wins. The Fort William World Cup, the second downhill World Cup of the season, was held June 6-7 in Scotland.

Nasty weather the previous day made for a dicey downhill course, but Minnaar, riding Maxxis’ Minion DHR II tires, turned in a performance that was praised by RedBull.com as featuring “adventurous lines married to fluidity and stamina.” His winning run was even more remarkable in light of the fact that Saturday’s wind and rain forced riders to ride both the qualifier and the final race on Sunday. Minnaar finished .119 seconds ahead of the second-place rider, and is now third in UCI downhill rankings with 281 points.

Showing great determination, Minnaar’s fellow Santa Cruz rider Josh Bryceland managed to finish 31st at Fort William despite a suffering a serious wreck during training. Peat is still recovering from an injury sustained earlier this year.

Maxxis congratulates Greg Minnaar on his record-setting victory at Fort William, and wishes him the best at downhill World Cup #3, scheduled for June 13-14 in Leogang, Austria.
