The 42nd edition of Dakar is approaching again. After three decades of Africa and 11 years of South America, Dakar 2020 will be held from 5 to 17 January in the Middle East. The drivers will have to cover a total length of 9,000 kilometers in the varied landscape of Saudi Arabia, the largest country in the Middle East. The Dakar participants will start in Jeddah, where for once the gate to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina will also be a launch site for the drivers, drivers and crew. The finish and award ceremony will take place in Al Qiddiya on January 17th.
Tim & Tom Coronel go to extremes again
The drivers of the Maxxis Dakar Team, Tim (13x Dakar) and Tom (7x Dakar) will participate in an improved version of the “Beast (Part 3.0)”. The chassis remains the Jefferies score buggy, with a 6.2 liter, LS3 small block, 370 hp and a top speed of 190 k per hour. The vehicle has been made lighter and more ergonomic in recent months. The pipes, cooling and bodywork have also been improved. Their objective? Reaching the top 20 neck-and-neck with the professional vehicles.
Maxxis Dakar tires
The Beast is fitted with 37×12.5-17 M8060 8PR 124Q Maxxis tires, “for Dakar use only”. This means that the construction is specially tailored to Dakar and the wishes of the Coronels. The 4×4 profile M8060 is for sale throughout the Netherlands and suitable for European roads. During the Dakar, the quality of the tires was proven to be 100% Dakar-proof every time. In addition, Maxxis uses the experiences that the Dakar Team gains with the tires to further develop passenger car, SUV, 4×4 and van tires, among other things. Reedijk Banden Import BV (the official Maxxis tire distributor in the Benelux), Tim Coronel and Maxxis International have been working together successfully since 2011.
