    Premitra HP5 Tyre Test Results

Vi Bilagare Summer Tyre Test 2021 Winner Badge Maxxis HP5Vi Bilägare Summer Tyre Test 2021
The Maxxis Premitra HP5 outperformed seven premium and mid-range tyres such as the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance and Michelin Primacy 4, as well as the Nokian Hakka Blue and more, to be declared the overall winner of the test. The test involved wet handling, braking and cornering grip, curved and straight aquaplaning, dry handling and dry braking as well as fuel consumption, noise, comfort and rolling resistance.

Auto Zeitung Summer Tyre Test 2020
A summer tyre test conducted in 2020 by the German version of Auto Express, Auto Zeitung magazine tested 20 cars in wet and dry conditions, monitoring handling, braking, aquaplaning, slalom grip, noise and rolling resistance. The result? The Maxxis Premitra HP5 was not only ‘very recommended’ but also the ‘recommendation for value’, as it was beaten by only a few points by the Michelin Primacy 4, Bridgestone Turanza T005 and Continental PremiumContact 6, resulting in comparable performance for a fraction of the price.

“Maxxis offers a balance of affordability and good performance.” – Paul Englert, Auto Zeitung magazine, 2020 [translated]

ACE tyre test logoACE Summer Tyre Test 2020
Another summer tyre test completed in 2020 by another German magazine, ACE, was focussed specifically on mid-range tyres, including a premium tyre as a ‘reference tyre’. Not only did the Maxxis Premitra HP5 win the test, scoring the best across a series of tests including wet and dry braking, straight and curved aquaplaning, wet and dry handling and more, but it also showed even better aquaplaning resistance than the anonymous premium control tyre.

“The Maxxis was the fastest tyre in the field and therefore deserves pole position.” – ACE magazine, 2020 [translated]

ADAC tyre test logoADAC Tyre Test 2020
ADAC, another German authority, conducted a 12-month tyre test of 16 different tyres 235/55 R17.

In this test, the Premitra HP5 was the only mid-range tyre to be awarded the ‘highly recommended’ label; the only other tyres awarded this recommendation in this test were Bridgestone, Michelin and Pirelli.

Overall, the Premitra HP5 achieved joint 3rd place with the Pirelli Cinturato P7, an impressive result for a tyre which could cost up to 20% less than the Pirelli.

    Premitra HP5 Tyre Reviews

Sometimes the best reviews come from car drivers just like you.

Mercedes Benz Vito Driver, TyreReviews.co.uk, November 2020:
“Bought [Premitra HP5] for a Vito to replace the old “van tyres”. Night and dry difference, and now the Vito is quieter and much more comfortable. Massively cheaper than the other options, but no negatives compared against more expensive tyres that I’ve used.”

    Peugeot 407 driver, TyreReviews.co.uk, November 2019:
“By the price compared to its performance and durability, I feel that this tyre is sort of underrated in many aspects. I am very satisfied and will buy again.”

    Ford S Max driver, TyreReviews.co.uk, August 2019:
“Not at all bad tyres for the price. Paid £400 for 4 when I was in a pinch, been pleasantly surprised since. Can be pushed and are quite progressive. When they do let go it’s nice and controllable. Traction is not so good, let go quite readily in 2nd and sometimes 3rd in the wet (remapped 170bhp 450nm, 1.7 tonne people carrier – I’m sure on a smaller car they’d be better). Dry handling is good, wet is sure but not amazing. Wet braking however is pretty impressive. All in all a very good tyre for the price. Seem to be wearing quite well to boot!”

    Mercedes Benz C350 driver, TyreReviews.co.uk, January 2018:
“Normally always run Continental Contact Sport 5, but they wear out extremely fast. So decided to go for the HP5 after reading its excellent reviews and ratings for the wet… These tyres have minimal slide on full acceleration, can accelerate out of bends too without the car fishtailing but pushed hard enough there is good feedback from the tyre before it wants to fully let go into a drift per say. Very similar to the tyres I have run before but a bit more spongy when throwing the car around. But quality and grip for the money…if driven sensibly I would assume nearly double the mileage that I have done. I will be replacing these tyres with the same set, they suit my driving style and car very well and cheap isn’t the word compared to top tyre manufacturers tyres with almost the same drivability. If you are a spirited driver with a budget these are definitely the tyres to go for.”

Seat Leon Cupra driver, TyreReviews.co.uk, March 2017:
“Always had Continental Contact 5 fitted to my Seat Leon, when they had done their tie I was offered a set of Maxxis HP5s by a local tyre fitter, so at the price I thought I’d give them a try, must say so far I am very impressed, great feedback, grip in the wet just as good as they do in the dry and very quiet, 7000 miles so far and they seem to be wearing a lot better than the Continentals, I will be buying another set of HP5s when these wear out.”
