BDC Round 2 Japspeed Report

After a hectic few weeks for the team involving a trip to Top Gear Barbados, Japfest and the Irish Drift Championship, it was time for us to return to the Maxxis British Drift Championship, with Round 2 taking place at Knockhill circuit in Scotland.

Japspeed drivers Paul Smith, Shane O’Sullivan and Danny Eyles were eager to take on the infamous Hill, with Shane being especially keen to better his 2nd place finish that he netted at Round 1. Practice took place under stunning sunshine but it wasn’t long before rain clouds appeared and doused the track.

Come Sunday and the track had thankfully dried up, allowing qualifying to proceed at full pace. With such a high standard of drivers taking part in the Super Pro class the Top 16 was always going to be close; once the dust had settled Shane O’Sullivan had secured 5th place while Danny Eyles also made the cut in 13th.

The battles began on Sunday afternoon and, although the weather had remained glorious throughout the day, the dreaded rain made an appearance during the Super Pro Top 16 battles. First up was Shane O’Sullivan in his Top 16 battle against Dan Chapman: despite having had no practice in the rain Shane made short work of his opponent, effortlessly moving him onto the Top 8.

Danny’s first battle saw him drawn against David Waterworth. Unfortunately for Danny, David span while leading their first run leaving Danny with nowhere to go; the two collided and the damage sustained to the Subaru was too severe to be repaired within the time limit. The team was gutted to say the least and all eyes were now on Sully to see how far he could go.

Shane’s next opponent was the aforementioned David Waterworth and, despite Shane chasing extremely hard in the first run, he was unable to pull a big enough lead on the second run to secure a large enough advantage to go through to the Top 4.

Considering the adverse conditions endured throughout the event we were very pleased to get the results we did as Shane O’Sullivan is now leading the Super Pro championship! We’d like to thank all of our sponsors for their continued support as without them none of this would be possible. The next round of the Maxxis British Drift Championship sees us head to Teesside Autodrome on July 19th-20th – we’ll see you there!
