BDC Round 2 Report

The 2014 Maxxis British Drift Championship showed no sign of letting up over the weekend as a full grid of competitors headed to Knockhill circuit in Scotland for Round 2 of the 2014 series.

For some drivers Round 2 was a chance to make amends after enduring a difficult Round 1, although for others it was an opportunity to stamp their authority on their respective classes and rack up some championship points.

Saturday comprised of practice for all three classes, followed by qualifying for the Semi Pro drivers. While the weather had remained kind for the drivers throughout the morning, come mid-afternoon the heavens had opened, washing away all of the rubber and traction that had been laid down. The day still continued as per the timetable and the Semi Pro drivers had to adapt to the conditions in order to qualify for their Top 16 battles.

Come Sunday and the track had dried out, just in time for the hard fought Pro and Super Pro qualifying sessions. Once the dust had settled it was Team MnM’s Gary Mills that secured the top spot in Semi Pro while Keilan Woods topped the Pro class and Team WKD’s Wesley Keating wound up on top in Super Pro.

The Semi Pro class final pitted Round 1 winner Matt Stevenson in his 350Z against Joseph Ankers in his S13; Matt emerged the eventual winner ahead of Joseph while Jack Symes took third in his BMW.

The Pro final saw Round 1 winner Martin Battye in his S15 and Ollie Elmore in his R33 go head to head in a battle that saw Martin secure the win, giving him back-to-back Pro class victories at Rounds 1 and 2.

The Super Pro final pitted Pro class winner Martin Battye and Round 1 Top Qualifier Stephen Biagioni against each other in an extremely close battle that the judges decided to run One More Time. Both drivers fought extremely hard but it was Martin that emerged the eventual victor, with Stephen in second and David Waterworth rounding out the podium in third.

We couldn’t have asked for a better event (despite the challenging weather conditions) and would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors for their help; Round 3 takes place at Teesside Autodrome on July 19th &
20th – we’ll see you there!
