Maxxis opens new tyre factory in India

Maxxis Rubber India, a subsidiary of the Maxxis Group, has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, India. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani officially opened the plant with the Maxxis Group Chairman Tsai-Jen Lo, Cheng-Yao Liao, President - Maxxis India and Jia-Ciao Liou (Gary), Spokesperson, Maxxis India. The plant, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat state, spread across 106 acres, was set up with an investment of approximately US$400 million and specialises in the production of tyres and tubes for two-wheel vehicles. Production at the site began half a year ago with an initial daily capacity of 20,000 tyres and 40,000 tubes, and a workforce of 600 people. The company is targeting a market share of at least 15% of India’s tyre market within five years, which would see the workforce grow to 2000.

Cheng-Yao Liao, President – Maxxis India stated “Maxxis Global is targeting to become one of the top five tyre manufacturers in the world by 2026 and the Indian market will play a vital role in our growth. We are fully committed to the government’s ‘Make In India’ initiative. We monitored the market for over two decades and then developed the strategy for entering India. The manufacturing plant in Sanand is only the first step in developing the full Maxxis’s range in the country.”

Maxxis Rubber India was established in 2014 and gained its first original equipment business the following year with supply to India’s top-selling motorcycle, the Honda Activa 3G. In addition to two-wheel supply to Honda, Maxxis also delivers original equipment tyres to Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Tata and Jeep in India.

The Sanand facility has an efficient Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) that gives the plant the status of a ‘Zero Liquid Discharge’ facility.

Maxxis’s global product portfolio includes tyres for passenger cars, bicycles, motorcycles, light trucks, trucks, buses, ATVs and agricultural and industrial vehicles. Globally, the Maxxis Group has a presence across six continents with 21 manufacturing plants and five R&D Centres worldwide, and supplies its diversified tyre products to 180 countries.
