Solid day for Apico LPE Kawasaki at Cusses Gorse

After a busy few weeks for the Apico LPE Kawasaki team following their trip to the Zwarte Cross and the GP of Lommel, the team return to Maxxis British Championship action at Cusses Gorse for round seven of the championship.

Overnight rain had many people worried but soon after qualifying started, the track quickly developed some good lines and some great action. Gert Krestinov’s day started well with qualifying and after settling into the track Gert posted the 8th fastest time in Q1 before improving to 7th in Superpole.

The opening race of the day saw Gert produce a great start from the inside gate and round the first corner in second place. On the opening lap Gert lost two more positions to round the opening lap in fourth. During the race Gert rode a solid race to secure a fourth place finish.

The second race of the day saw Gert make another strong start and start inside the top 5 and struggling to find his rhythm early on and as a result lost a few position during the middle of the race and eventually finished 9th at the finish.

The final race of the day saw Gert struggle with the start and at the end of the first lap was just outside the top 10 in 11th. As the race progressed Gert managed to push forward and finished the race in a solid 6th place to be tied on points for 5th overall to secure 7th overall on the day.

At the end of the day Gert had moved into fifth place in the MX1 Maxxis British Championship and sits just 17 points behind third place with one round remaining.

Gert Krestinov: I’m a bit disappointed with the end result but I’m happy with my riding today on a track that doesn’t really suit my style. I qualified well and that gave me a good gate and start in the first two races, but I suffered a bad start in the last race. In the first race I started in fourth and rode a consistent race to finish fourth. In the second race I was stuck behind Alex Snow and couldn’t make a pass and then got caught by a few others and slipped back to 9th place. In the final race I pushed forward from a bad start to get 6th but couldn’t pass Parker on the last lap so that annoyed me.

Steve James – Team Manager: today started really well with 7th in Superpole around a track where everyone was so close on times. Then in the first race Gert got a great start from the inside gate and rounded the first corner in second place and eventually finished fourth. In the second race Gert made another strong start but unfortunately got stuck behind Alex Snow and lost his rhythm and dropped to 9th at the finish. Then in the last race Gert suffered his worst start of the day and was down in 11th before working his way up to 6th at the finish. Gert finished the day 7th overall but 5th, 6th and 7th were all tied on 45 points and if it hadn’t been for the second race we could have been 5thoverall or higher. In the championship we have moved up to 5th place with just one round left so if we can finish the year in 5th then I will be happy.
