Team Japspeed - Maxxis BDC - Round 5

The finale of the 2013 Maxxis British Drift Championship took place at Knockhill circuit in Dunfermline, Scotland at the weekend – a formidable circuit for those lacking in commitment and bravery. Team Japspeed drivers Shane O’Sullivan, Paul Smith and Brett Castle made the trip up north hoping for another fantastic BDC event.

Practice kicked off on the Saturday with all of the Super-Pro drivers concentrating on nailing their entry into the hugely challenging first corner that features a blind downhill apex. All three drivers were looking competitive, with Shane in particular looking incredibly commited and composed.

In qualifying all three Japspeed drivers pushed extremely hard and, once the dust had settled, it was Shane that found himself claiming the top qualifier spot having taken 97 out of a possible 100 points from the judges. Unfortunately for Brett and Paul both drivers narrowly missed out on the battles by qualifying in 17th and 18th place respectively.

Shane was drawn against Team Lassa’s Jody Fletcher in the Top 16, a battle that he won easily after commanding a large advantage in his lead run. Sully’s next opponent was Super-Pro champion elect Mike Marshall – Shane’s lead run saw the advantage awarded in his favour but, in his chase run, dropping his rear wheels off track and into the dirt saw the judges give him zero points, ending his campaign for the round.

With just a handful of events left in 2013, Japspeed will soon be rebuilding the cars to an even bigger and better spec for 2014!
