Catharine Pendrel earned Commonwealth Games gold with a victory in Elite Women\u2019s cross country mountain biking. he Games run from July 23 through August 3 in Glasgow, Scotland, and the women\u2019s mountain bike race was held July 29.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Riding for Canada, Pendrel gained the lead in the first of six laps, and held it through the remainder of the race. She finished more than a minute ahead of the next rider. “I didn’t expect that. I found myself by myself,\u201d she told cyclingnews.com.\u00a0\u201cAnyone who watches me race knows I like to go hard from the start. When you get some space at the front, you just go for it.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the other side of the Atlantic, Pendrel\u2019s teammate Georgia Gould also took a victory. Gould topped the podium at the Catamount Classic short track race, held July 27 in Williston, Vermont. Fellow Luna rider Katerina Nash took second place.\u00a0<\/p>\n
