Proving yet again that Maxxis’ CX tires are top of the line, Kona-Maxxis-Shimano’s Kerry Werner won both Elite Men’s races and the Parkway CX Trophy at DCCX, with teammate Rebecca Fahringer taking the women’s Parkway CX Trophy. Featured on USA Cycling’s Pro Cyclocross Calendar (ProCX), DCCX was held October 21-22 in Washington D.C. on the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home.

Werner dominated the Elite Men’s race from the start on Day 1, taking the holeshot and never relinquishing the lead; he finished ten seconds ahead of the next rider. The victory gave Kerry the lead for the Parkway CX Trophy presented by Union Craft Brewery and allowed him to maintain his top spot in ProCX points.

“My legs hurt. I went pretty hard out there,” Werner told CYCLOCROSS Magazine. “We got some rain last night, and the track was already moist, so we had a spongy, power-sucking dirt. Even being out front by myself, it was just really conducive to going hard all the time. So once I had a bit of a gap, it was just keep a steady throttle on all race and try not to make any mistakes. That was the plan.”

Fahringer led for much of the Elite Women’s race and took second for the day after another rider finished just one wheel-length ahead of her. Her results kept her in the lead for the Parkway CX Trophy.

As he did on the opening day, Werner took the holeshot on Day 2. He again dominated the race: by the end of the third lap, he had opened a 15-second gap, which he increased to more than a minute by the finish line. The race victory was his sixth in a row at DCCX.

In the Elite Women’s race, Fahringer rebounded from a mechanical and crash to take third for the day and clinch her Parkway CX Trophy.

Maxxis congratulates both of these Kona-Maxxis-Shimano riders and wishes them the best in the next ProCX races, scheduled for October 27-28.
