The Pure bicycles team headed to the Midlands to race in rounds 3 and 4 of the BC national series on the international track at Perry Barr Birmingham. Here, the team give us a break down of their weekend.
Jared Hill,
Jared was feeling confident of a good result in Birmingham after two great training sessions, on a track where he had previous national success with a win in 2014. With strong gates and track speed he transferred through the qualifying stages with ease on Saturday but had to work hard in the semi final to recover from a slow start, and with a strong finish managed to secure 3rd and a place in the final. With the promise of a new helmet from his parents if he won both days, Jared took the hole-shot in the final and held the lead to take his first national win for 2015. Day 2 and full of confidence. Jared won every lap and went on to take a dominant win in the final, ensuring he will be wearing a shiny new D3 helmet at rounds 5&6 in Scotland.
Luke Mendes,
Nine weeks after breaking his wrist snowboarding Luke was back in action at Birmingham National. He had been off the bike for 7 weeks, and with only 2 weeks to prepare it wasn’t ideal. Having missed the first round this was the first time Luke was repping the Pure team at a National.
Luke made his way through to the A final and although the rider next to him unclipped on the gate before it dropped, Luke managed to keep his focus and had a decent gate finishing in 4th place.
Josh Butson,
Saturday morning started the best it could, and I took the first moto win. The quarter final didn’t last long, a clash with another rider at the bottom of the start hill left us both hitting the floor and that bought my Saturday to a halt. A weekend to forget for me but only down to unfortunate and unlucky events. Looking forward to redeem myself in Scotland for the next round.
Tian Isidore,
Birmingham was a great weekend of racing in with the older boys and I came away with 5th on the first day. The second day was a lot windier than the first, making the pro section pretty tricky. I had the best gate of the weekend in my semi final and came out of the first corner in 2nd and stayed there for the rest of the lap. I was happy to make it to the final and I had quite a clean lap so managed to come away with a 4th!
Alan Hill,
I didn’t have the best of preparations for the Birmingham national after crashing the week before at a regional race and injuring my finger. I qualified for both cruiser and 20” finals with wins in the semi-finals to get a good gate pick on the inside. Battling hard with local rider Andy Shaw into the 1st turn I managed to take the lead and hold on for the win in round 3. I couldn’t repeat my semi final performance in the Master’s final but rode a good lap for 3rd to finish off Saturday’s racing.
Neil Stewart,
I installed my new Maxxis Torch Tyres for these two rounds, to test out the new Rubber, and to be honest they were perfect and on point. On Saturday I managed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Moto’s, with a 3rd in the Semi Final, which meant another A final for the “The Warlock”, Maxxis Tyres and Pure Bicycles! The gate dropped in the final and it wasn’t my best lap of the day, and I ended up 7th, but still really happy just to make the Main.
Quillan Isidore,
Birmingham national was an enjoyable one. It was good fun to race a UK national again. It was good timing to just forget about all the politics that’s been going on behind closed doors and just race. I put together some very solid performances, although the finals didn’t go as planned I gave it my all. Thanks for Pure Bicycles, Maxxis & Daniel Sturgeon for the support.
