Matt Carter cruised to victory in the 2017 British Drift Championship, rolling and sliding sublimely all year in his Team Japspeed Skyline on Maxxis tyres.
The title was clinched at the final round of racing, dubbed ‘Fight Night’, at the Teesside Autodrome in mid-September, with Matt securing the fourth place he needed on the night to take the overall championship.
As well as thanking his team and the fans, Carter has also been quick to pay tribute to the rubber that has carried him to ultimate victory, stating: “The Maxxis VR1 tyre is the perfect tyre for team Japspeed. The softer compound gives noticeable grip allowing us to put all 630bhp to the tarmac, and gives us great confidence to go into corners fast, leaving all competition in our smoke.”
After a high octane season that has seen racers travel up and down the country, and across the Irish sea, to perform in front of a growing legion of dedicated fans, Carter accumulated 220 points to claim the 2017 British Drift Championship crown. The win makes him the third champion to be helped to success by the long-standing and highly successful partnership of Team Japseed and Maxxis.
Speaking after the final round, Maxxis International’s marketing manager Nikki McCluney commented: “It’s been another great season for Team Japspeed and Maxxis. We’ve shown a lot of belief in the team and their management, and everyone here is thrilled to have helped Matt attain the ultimate prize in the sport in the UK. It’s been a close and exciting battle all the way to the finish, and it was great to see a driver drifting on Maxxis rubber cross the line in first.”
