Maxxis BDC 2012 ends in style

The 2012 season of the Maxxis British Drift Championship has seen everything move forward in huge style. The standard of driving is higher than ever, attendance at events is continuing to grow and thanks to continued television coverage; we are reaching across Europe. Everyone has been captivated, and each event has been a continual quest for improvement from all involved.

The season finale was hotly anticipated with a huge stir about who would be crowned champions in the various classes. With the top spots still being mathematically possible for several drivers to climb onto, there was everything to play for at Knockhill. It had gone right down to the wire for a nail-biting finish!

Knockhill is a firm driver and spectator favourite due to the level of skill and heroism required to navigate the track on the line that the judges want to see; there’s no margin for error and it’s all too easy to make a mistake and take a trip into the kitty litter in front of the baying crowd.

The weekend also saw Team Falken’s European stars Remmo Niezen and Lars Verbraeken coming over to enter into the Super Pro class to shake things up further! Over both days in testing conditions we really did witness some jaw-dropping skill and drives, the spectators feasted upon these mouth-watering displays during the all or nothing twin battles!

To finish things off for a brilliant weekend and groundbreaking season; we found some familiar faces and some new blood stepping onto the hallowed podium at Knockhill.

Results on the day were as follows:

SEMI-PRO CLASS

1st place – Jay Green

2nd place – Marcin Murca

3rd place – Ian Waddington

PRO CLASS

1st place – Ciaran Sinnot

2nd place – Mark Sinnot

3rd place – Alex Law

SUPER PRO CLASS

1st place – Remmo Neizen

2nd place – James Fuller

3rd place – Shane Lynch

Constructors – Team Scotdrift

Hard Charger – Jamie Fuller

After a storming weekends drifting at Knockhill for Judgement day, we could tease the eager crowd no more; it was time to crown our 2012 champions. This was what the drivers and teams had worked tirelessly for and battled all year long for, a shot at being crowned the Maxxis British Drift Championship 2012 champion! Who would have the consistency and nerve to battle through the pile to become number one?

For the Semi-Professional class we had Team Rampstyle’s Owen Taylor!

Taking the spoils of the hotly contested Pro Class we had Team Dori Hero’s Christian Lewis!

In the incredibly tough Super Pro Class we had Paul “Smokey” Smith from Team Japspeed!
Last but not least we had to crown the team/constructors championship, this is something a few teams were giving all they had for, but after a close-run year, it was sealed and taken by-

Team Japspeed after putting in some great team performances throughout the year!

The champagne rained down over the Knockhill podium to bring a nail-biter of a season to a close. Everyone involved is proud to be a part of this standard-setting championship and the eyes of Europe have been watching and taking notes. None of this could be possible without the loyal and continued help of our sponsors.

We would like to thank all those involved for all the hard work they put in throughout the season from those who help setting up, the marshalls, the teams and the drivers themselves (and all the others we have neglected to mention) – well done on a spectacular season!

Work has already started for 2013 so it will be bigger and better than ever before! We’ll keep pushing the sport forwards and we hope you will be along with us in 2013.
