Maxxis confirms title Sponsorship for Maxxis Dakar Team

Maxxis is pleased to announce that it will once again be partnering with twin brothers, Tim and Tom Coronel, as they set their sights on the 2018 Dakar Rally. The partnership, which originally started in 2011, will enable the tyre manufacturer to put its extreme 4x4 competition tyres to the test at the world’s biggest off-road competition, Le Dakar.

A new change for 2018, Tim and Tom have confirmed that this year, instead of running the race separately, they will be sharing the driving duties behind the wheel of a new, purpose built buggy. Lovingly nicknamed ‘The Beast’, the Coronels have commissioned the new car from Jefferies Racing in Apple Valley, California – a sharp contrast to the solo buggies, this car has a ‘Hummer-like’ and rough appearance, making it the perfect match for  Maxxis’ M8060 Trepador pattern.

The 40th running of the Dakar Rally, held in South America for the tenth time in 2018, will get underway in Peru’s capital, Lima, on 6 January and finish in Córdoba, Argentina on 20 January. Halfway through the event, there will be a rest day in Bolivia’s capital, La Paz.

Tim Coronel stated ‘During the Dakar Rally, our vehicle experiences a lot of different terrains including sand, water, mud, rock and fesh-fesh. Our tyres must provide maximum grip and traction on all of these terrains to bring us safely to the finish. Maxxis have not only provided us with tyres, but also developed the M8060 to make a super Dakar Proof Tyre. The M8060 Trepador is a weapon, with great handling and superb traction in all conditions – for us, it is a winner on and off the track’.
