Premitra 5 HP5 Excels in WhichCar Tyre Test 2020

Australian motoring publication, WhichCar, put 10 tyres through their paces in their 2020 tyre test, testing tyre weight, slalom ability, dry braking and cornering, wet braking and cornering, and tyre noise. The Maxxis Premitra 5 HP5 was awarded second place overall and featured one of the lowest price tags.

The Maxxis Premitra 5 HP5 tyre was tested amongst a range of other premium and mid-range tyres on a Hyundai Tucson wearing 225/55 R18 tyres; a popular mid-size SUV size both in Australia and the UK.

The next area of excellence for the Premitra 5 HP5 was in the dry braking test, where the Maxxis tyre showed the shortest braking distance of all tyres tested, and then exceeded expectations by almost replicating those same braking distances in the wet; the Maxxis tyres travelled just 64cm further under wet braking than dry. This makes for impressive and safety-reassuring results and maintained its first-place position in both braking tests.

“If its dry stopping wasn’t impressive enough, its wet performance stepped it up to proclaim the Maxxis Premitra 5 the king of braking in 2020.”

Continuing its winning streak, the Maxxis Premitra 5 HP5 also topped the league table in wet handling with the fastest cornering time of the wet test.

“Here at Wheels we like surprises, and that’s exactly what the Maxxis delivered when things got wet. Through our two soggy corners it edged out all contenders to prove sheer grip counts for plenty.”

Overall, the Maxxis Premitra 5 HP5 was beaten to the top spot only by the premium Continental PremiumContact 6 which, according to the test, costs 20 Australian dollars more per tyre. The performance achieved by the Maxxis tyre, along with its clear safety benefits thanks to its short braking distances, make this tyre a great choice for all-round summer use.
