Team Japspeed Q&As - Danny Eyles

Maxxis got the chance to sit down with Team Japspeed before the start of the 2014 Maxxis British Drift Championship. We find out how the guys got into drifting, their hopes for the season ahead and much more...

Here we talk to Danny Eyles, who is back in drifting and back with Team Japspeed!

  • What was your first vehicle?

My first vehicle was a Nissan Skyline R33

  • How does it feel to be back with Team Japspeed?

It’s great! Back with my old buddies, back in the family – I’m really looking forward to it.

  • How does the Scooby (Subaru) compare to your previous vehicle?

The Scooby is a lot more powerful and a lot more aggressive, which is true to my style. The sequential box is so much better; just keep pulling gears rather than messing about with the clutch and everything. It’s just an animal that needs to be tamed!

  • Since your break from the team, what experience do you feel you can bring to ensure that you add value?

I’ve got a lot more experience reallyl I’ve grown up a bit – wiser head on old shoulders! I’m more relaxed this time round. I’m going to come and do a job rather than panicking.

MAZ1 Drifts

  • What do you think are the major attributes of the Maxxis MAZ1 Drift tyre?

The major attribute of the MAZ1 Drift is the grip and track position with them. You get the stickiness on the front to hold the perfect line around the apex – without any sliding, under and oversteering – it just holds a smooth line all the way around and the back just follows. There’s so much grip to push you forward to help you maintain forward speed all the while and you can drop the pressure right down and get even more grip because the car will take it.

  • How are you going to make sure you’ve got the edge over your competitors?

I’m just going to get used to the car. The car’s more than capable of it; I just need to get back up to speed after three years out! I’m just going to be more relaxed.
