Team Maxxis 4×4 Malaysia Lands Third Straight Win in Rainforest Challenge (RFC) Grand Final
In a first in the history of the series, one team has won the Rainforest Challenge Grand Final for the third year in a row. After besting brutal conditions and world-class competition through the entire event, which ran from November 23 – December 5, Team Maxxis 4×4 Malaysia took the win for 2017. Teams from 36 countries, including Russia, Hong Kong/China, Ecuador, Colombia, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Vietnam, and India, traveled to the Malaysian state of Pahang to compete in the race.
The prologue of the multi-stage race set the tone for the event, with a downpour which continued into the second day, leading to rising water levels. The opening stage also included a 30-foot vertical wall climb, for which Team Maxxis for which was forced to employ winch ropes. After slogging through multiple stages of muddy, rocky terrain, fighting off leeches and sand flies, and racing the Twilight Zone, a stage in which teams raced in darkness, Team Maxxis 4×4 Malaysia emerged in first place. The team earned the overall championship, the Portal Axle Class championship, the Best Petrol Engine 2000cc – 3000cc championship, and the Most Outstanding Twilight Zone Team Award.
