The Maxxis BDC Tees Off at Teesside

The 2014 Maxxis British Drift Championship entered the halfway point over the weekend as Round 3 of the series saw the drivers head to Teesside Autodrome, a favourite track with both competitors and spectators alike.

With most of the drivers being very familiar with the circuit many were looking to capitalise on their experience and rack up some much needed championship points.

Saturday comprised of practice in the morning followed by qualifying in the afternoon. While the day had started with nice weather, come the afternoon the track had been drenched by a continued downpour. With all of the traction washed away the circuit became extremely slippy and tricky but the drivers adapted to the conditions and continued with their qualifying runs in the hope of making the cut for the Top 32 battles.

Come Sunday and the rain had subsided, allowing the track to dry throughout the day. Top qualifiers Adam Simmons (Semi Pro), Ollie Elmore (Pro) and Stephen Biagioni (Super Pro) were all eager to kick off the Top 32 battles in the hope of ascending the top step of the podium and earning some championship points.

The Semi Pro class final pitted Steven Donnelly in his Soarer against Tony Walker in his S13; Steven emerged the eventual winner ahead of Tony while top qualifier Adam Simmons took third in his R33 Skyline.

The Pro final saw Ollie Silcock in his S13 and Antony Mortley in his R324 Skyline go head to head in a battle that saw Ollie secure the win, with Antony in second and Dan Firmager rounding out the podium in third.

The Super Pro final pitted Shane O’Sullivan and top qualifier Stephen Biagioni against each other in an extremely close quarters battle that had the crowd thrilled from the word go. Both drivers gave it their all but it was Shane that emerged the eventual victor, with Stephen claiming second and Matt Carter rounding out the podium in third.

Despite the challenging weather conditions we saw some of the most entertaining drifting we have seen all season and would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors for their help; Round 4 takes place at Lydden Hill on August 9th & 10th – we’ll see you there!
