Round seven of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship saw the Maxxis Kawasaki by LPE team head to Hawkstone Park in Shropshire. A weekend of fine weather greeted the team as they looked towards a weekend of consistent results.
With Jack Brunell unavailable as he prepares for his wedding, the team enlisted the services of young James Hutchinson to ride alongside Dorren Coutts. The day started with practice and qualifying with Dorren finishing 16th and James a couple of places behind in 19th.

The first race the of the day saw both riders make mid pack starts, with James quickly moving into 10th on the opening lap. Dorren suffered a problem with his goggles on the opening lap resulting in him having to pit for a spare set and restarting in last place. Unfortunately for James, he would pick up a rear wheel puncture in the first few laps of the race resulting in a DNF. Dorren would continue on to the finish but he would only recover to 21st.

The second race saw both riders again make top 20 starts and push their way forward into the top 15. As the race neared the end it looked like both riders were going to finish together until Dorren landed heavily and jarred his already injured shoulder and had to retire due to the discomfort. James finished the race in 15th.
With Dorren in pain from his shoulder the decision was made for him not to compete in the last race, this leaving James the sole rider in the race. The race started well for James and looked comfortable for a top 10 finish when disaster struck and he crashed heavily and re-injured his previously broken ankle, which required him to have medical attention and brought the race to an early finish with a red flag.

Dorren Coutts – I’ve hurt my shoulder again today during the second race and the decision was taken not to do the last race, we’ve got a couple of weeks of now to rest it and hopefully come back stronger.

Steve James – Today has been a very hard and tough day. In the first race Dorren had a problem with his goggles and had to stop for a spare set and recovered to 21st from dead last. In the second race he was running in 13th when he tweaked his shoulder and had to pull in on lap 8. Due to his worsening shoulder injury I made the decision that Dorren couldn’t start the last race. James was looking real good in the first race moving into the top ten when he had an unfortunate puncture, which he picked up from the rocky ground at the top of the hill. Then in the second race he rode a consistent race to finish 15th. In the last race he was running in 10th when he had a pretty big off and the race had to be red flagged for his safety and so the ambulance could come across the track from the infield to attend to James and treat him for the injury to his right ankle. He was taken to hospital and hopefully we will find
