Schurter Wins Mercedes Benz UCI MTB World Cup

Nino Schurter of Scott-SRAM MTB Racing rode Maxxis tires to victory in the Mercedes Benz UCI MTB World Cup, held May 20 in Albstadt, Germany. The race gave him the 27th World Cup win of his career.

The defending champion, Schurter overcame a third-row start to move to the front group by the end of the first lap. He moved ahead steadily, with other riders working hard to keep up, and increased his lead in the fourth lap. By the finish line, his lead was 16 seconds.

“It’s a really good feeling to have my first World Cup win of the year. I was quite disappointed after the short track, with the hard luck with a mechanical. It’s a nice relief [to win]. The first lap I was lucky; I was able to ride well, and into the first corner I was at the front. It’s important to be at the front. Third row was okay, but it definitely makes it more difficult,” he told cyclingnews.com.
