Corben Sharrah Wins Men’s UCI BMX World Championship; Buchanan 2nd in Women’s

The USA’s Corben Sharrah bested competition from the top tier of his sport to win the men’s UCI BMX World Championship, held July 23-30 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Caroline Buchanan, riding for her native Australia, took second place in the women’s contest. Both riders are sponsored by Maxxis and trusted the company’s tires to take them to the podium.

Sharrah took the lead by the first turn in the final race, holding it through to the finish line despite a close battle near the end.  “I’ve always liked this track,” Sharrah told uci.ch. “I’ve always done well here. I kept believing I could do it. It gets hectic at a race like the World’s, and I took it lap by lap. After 17 years of not having the World’s in the USA, this is a big one for me. I never made an Elite final at the World’s, and making the main and then winning it is just awesome.” Sharrah rode Maxxis 20×1.85” Grifter tire in front and a 20×1.75” DTH tire in the rear.

After winning her semi-final race, Buchanan was a strong second from the start of the final. She posted what was literally a photo finish with the eventual first-place rider.

Maxxis congratulates Corben Sharrah on his championship and Caroline Buchanan on her outstanding performance, and thanks both riders for choosing the brand of champions.
