Dustin “Battle Axe” Jones Wins It All at Best in the Desert Silver State!
Ranuio Takes Second Place
Winning their class would be triumph enough for most athletes, but this past weekend, Dustin “Battle Axe” Jones wasn’t about to stop there. Jones won both UTV Turbo Pro and the overall at Best in the Desert’s Jimco Silver State 300, held September 23 in Nevada. The overall win was a career-first for the Maxxis athlete.
Racing his new Can-Am outfitted with Maxxis RAZR XT tires, Jones finished the notoriously grueling race in 5 hours, 11 minutes and 39 seconds. “WE DID IT!! First ever Overall Overall WIN in a UTV and in the new @canamoffroad Maverick R!! Not just the UTV class but motorcycles, quads, buggies, spec trucks, 1 unlimited Trophy truck, 2 coyotes and 1 desert tortoise! All that hard work, long nights, and dedication paid off! So proud of the whole @s3racing team that made this possible!” Jones posted on Instagram.
Taking second and also on a brand-new Can-Am with RAZR XTs was UTV Turbo Pro athlete Vito Ranuio, who finished in 5 hours, 14 minutes and 34 seconds. “Had a solid run at V2R with a 2nd place finish, my codog @olsin6 was on point all day and my crew in pits could give F1 pit crews a run for their money. Huge thanks goes out to my team for all the hard work keeping us out front and all that support our program,” he said on Instagram.
Maxxis can’t wait to watch its athletes win at the next race on the Best in the Desert calendar, Duel in the Desert, the Laughlin Desert Classic, scheduled for October 12-15.
