Fort William DH World Cup: Maxxis Takes 5 of Men’s Top 10, Wins Men’s and Women’s Junior Races

Maxxis-sponsored riders took five spots in the Elite Men’s top ten at the Fort William Mercedes Benz UCI Downhill World Cup. Santa Cruz’ Louis Vergier and Canyon Factory Downhill Team’s Troy Brosnan took the second and third place podium spots at the event, held June 2-3 in Scotland. Maxxis’ sponsored riders also won the women’s and men’s Junior category races, with Valentina Höll taking the women’s victory and Canyon Factory’s Kye A’Hern topping the men’s podium.

The weekend’s rain halted before the Elite Men’s finals, allowing for drier conditions than many had feared. A muddier run would have added to the already difficult conditions at Fort William, which features the longest World Cup course of the season. Vergier’s final run of 04:34:722 was .27 seconds shy of the first-place rider’s, while Brosnan followed .311 seconds behind the winner. Other Maxxis-sponsored top ten riders at Fort William were: Madison Saracen Factory Team’s Danny Hart in sixth place; Hart’s teammate Matt Walker in seventh; and Giant Factory Off-Road Team’s Marcelo Gutierrez Villegas in eighth.

Brosnan is currently second in UCI Elite Men’s Downhill rankings, with 1420 points. Hart is fifth in the points race, and the legendary Greg Minnaar, who suffered a mishap at Fort William, is sixth. Vergier is seventh, and Santa Cruz’ Luca Shaw is currently tenth overall.

In the Elite Women’s Downhill race at Fort William, Pivot Factory Racing’s Emilie Siegenthaler made the top ten, taking eighth place.

A’Hern made his winning run in 04:42:414, and Höll won with a final run of 05:21:694.

The next Mercedes Benz UCI World Cup DHI race is scheduled for June 9-10, in Leogang, Austria. Maxxis thanks all of these riders for their outstanding performances at Fort William and looks forward to cheering them on this coming weekend.
