Hetrick Clinches ATV MX Championship

Joel Hetrick put last year’s heartbreak finish in the rearview mirror when he took the ATV MX National Championship at Round 10, the Ironman. Hetrick, who was on track to win the 2018 title when he was sidelined by a broken chain at the final race, was 1-3 at this year’s Ironman, earning more than enough points to secure the title.

The Phoenix Racing Honda/Maxxis Tires/Elka Suspension rider took the holeshot and won the first moto decisively, with defending six-time champ and Wienen/Motorsports/Yamaha/Maxxis’ Chad Wienen in second place. With his championship safe as long as he made the top four in the second moto, Hetrick again took the holeshot but then rode conservatively, finishing a comfortable third. He was second overall for the round.

Hetrick took six wins plus two additional podiums in the months leading up to the final round. The championship is his second for the series.

Wienen Motorsports/Yamaha/Maxxis’ Chad Wienen, who took two victories and six additional podiums during the year, dominated the second moto from start to finish and took the overall win for the Ironman. “My Maxxis tires were hooking up great out there,” he commented from the podium.

Hetrick and Wienen will next compete in the Quadcross of European Nations (QXON) as members of Team USA. QXON is scheduled for October 4-6 in Schwedt, Germany.

Maxxis congratulates Joel Hetrick on his championship and thanks Chad Wienen and all of its riders for their fine performances.
