Thomas and Gibbs Conquer the Legendary Track, Locking in 2024 Championships
After taking the competition by storm this year, Mickey Thomas and Trey Gibbs took home championships in the final race of the Championship Off-Road season. Pro Lite champ Gibbs then capped his triumph by making his Pro 2 debut in the Red Bull Crandon World Cup.
Thomas’ plan for Saturday’s race was to be shrewd and careful in locking down the Pro 2 title. Riding his go-to tire, the Maxxis RAZR AT, his strategy paid off when a sixth-place finish put him over the top in points. “I can’t believe this moment has finally come. We’ve been working so hard for years to capture this Champ Off Road Pro2 Championship, and I couldn’t be more proud of my team, my sponsors, and my family supporting me the whole way through this journey!” an elated Thomas said after the race. Although he could have easily coasted through the following day’s race, he started strong and didn’t let up, adding another win to his total for the season and thrilling his fans.
Gibbs was just as thrilled to ride his Maxxis Bravo AT-771 tires to a championship win this weekend: “Words can’t describe what winning the Pro Lite Championship means to my team and me. We’ve had an incredible 2024 season, and thankfully, I was able to lock down the championship before the last round at Crandon. I started racing ten years ago and always dreamed of competing in a Pro Lite. I’ve just wrapped up this season by finishing first in points. It’s a massive accomplishment for our entire team. My guys have worked their butts off all season, and it shows. This truly wouldn’t have been possible without them. I also can’t thank our partners enough for helping us reach the finish line this season.” Gibbs took second place in Sunday’s race.
Jimmy Henderson showed world-class grit this weekend after a serious crash at the start of the first turn took out half the Pro 4 field, including Henderson and his vehicle. He and his team worked through the night to get his truck back in shape for Sunday; he then earned second place in both the day’s race and Pro 4 points and took third place in the Cup race. “We were sitting in second place in the World Cup with Pro 4 after the land rush. As we cut through the Pro 2 field, we had an issue with the motor getting progressively worse. After making a mistake and putting the truck on two wheels, with the motor barely holding on, we were still able to battle our way up to a third-place podium. I am so proud of this team and so thankful for all God has blessed us with this year.”
“Wildman” Adrian Cenni’s vehicle sustained too much damage in the crash to repair in one day, but his excellent performance in Pro 4 this year allowed him to withstand being sidelined for the weekend and still land in fourth place in championship standings. Cenni took three victories in 2024, including a win at the season opener.
Nick Byng won Friday’s Super Stock Truck race and took second place in points for the year. “The monkey is off the back! Man what can I say but that was awesome. Can’t thank my team, friends and sponsors enough for everything they do for me. This was a team win!” he said.
Rising star Ryker Remington ended a season of excellent performances with second place in Friday’s Youth SxS race and third place in class points for the year.
Tyler Remmereid rode his Maxxis Roxxzillas to second place in Friday’s Pro Mod SXS race and third place the next day, while brother Todd won the Stock Production SxS event on RAZR XT tires.
Maxxis congratulates Mickey Thomas and Trey Gibbs on their championships and thanks all of its athletes for their amazing performances in the 2024 AMSOIL Championship Off-Road series.
