Maxxis’ New Competition Spec Is Ready to Rule at King of the Hammers

When King of the Hammers (KOH) gets underway January 30, Maxxis-sponsored athletes will have an edge available beyond their raw talent. Maxxis is using this ultra-brutal race to introduce the first of two RAZR MT-C (competition) specs: a new, 40-inch Ultra-4-friendly tire with a optimized compound that’s ideal for events like KOH.

Developed and tested over previous race seasons, this first RAZR MT-C spec features a soft compound for additional grip on large boulders and gnarly terrain, so it’s ready for the rugged conditions of KOH. The second RAZR MT-C spec is currently in development and offers a durable tread compound for improving cut-and-chip resistance more suitable for longer, Baja terrain-type desert races.

One of the toughest racing events in the world, KOH combines high-speed desert competition with the grueling demands of rock crawling. The event also features what amounts to an instant small town that springs up outside Johnson City, California, with a festival lasting all week.

Maxxis-sponsored athletes who’ll be gunning for first place include Chip McLaughlin and co-driver Brad Christiansen, Pip Justice and co-driver Tim Nolan, Justin Wicks, Brendon Thompson and Andrew McLaughlin and co-driver David “Huck” Sirota.

Fans who can’t make it to the lakebed can still follow all the racing action on YouTube.
