Maxxis Sweeps AMSOIL Cup Podium at Crandon

In a historic first for Maxxis, the company’s riders swept the podium at the biggest race in the off-road world, the AMSOIL Cup. The race came down to a battle between father and son as C.J. Greaves took the victory with father Johnny Greaves in second place. Their fellow Maxxis driver Chad Hord took the third spot on the podium at the race, held September 1 in Crandon, Wisconsin. The AMSOIL Cup was the finale of Rounds 14-15 of the TORC series, which began the day before.

A close finish capped a Cup race that thrilled spectators from the outset, as C.J., Johnny and Hord each got good starts. Hord gained an early lead but was overtaken by C.J. in the first lap. Johnny made steady progress throughout the opening laps, and was fifth by Lap 4. By Lap 8, he had overtaken Hord and was second behind C.J. Father and son were neck and neck for the final three laps, pulling off a finish so close that a review by TORC officials was necessary to discern the winner. “It was amazing. Even to have it play out like that it was like a Cinderella story,” said the elder Greaves. “You dream about it. When I finally caught the Pro2s and I saw him out front, I got alongside him, and he kept picking up the pace. We both gave it everything we had, and it was a photo finish. The tires are amazing this year as far as the predictability and performance. I’ve been with other tire companies, and they don’t get it right this quickly.”

Even without the AMSOIL Cup podium sweep, the weekend would have been excellent for Maxxis. Keegan Kincaid won the Pro Light race, while Bradley Morris won Pro Buggy. Johnny took an earlier turn on the podium when he earned third place in Pro 4×4, as did Hord when he took second place in the Pro 2WD race.

Maxxis congratulates C.J. Greaves, Johnny Greaves and Chad Hord on their incredible podium sweep, and congratulates Keegan Kincaid and Bradley Morris on their victories. Maxxis thanks all of its drivers for delivering another weekend of outstanding racing to fans of short course off-road competition.
