Maxxis Sweeps ATV MX Podium, Fowler Wins GNCC Mountaineer Run

The past week brought outstanding performances from Maxxis’ sponsored riders, including an ATV MX Pro podium sweep for Thomas Brown, Chad Wienen and Josh Upperman, and a GNCC win for Walker Fowler.

Upperman took the holeshot in the first moto of ATV MX Round 4, held May 31 in Walnut, Illinois. After a tough battle, Wienen gained the lead and held it through the finish line, with teammate Brown in second place and Upperman in third place. Upperman held the lead for much of the second moto, with Brown and Wienen charging hard for the front spot. Brown grabbed the lead near the end of the final lap, crossing the finish line less than a second before Upperman, with Wienen in third. Brown took the weekend’s overall win with Wienen in second place and Upperman third. Wienen continues to lead the points race. In other good news for Maxxis, Dane Heilman took first place in two ATV MX classes, Junior 25+ and Veteran 30+, while Katie Mette was second in the Women’s class.

Fowler topped the podium for the second time this season when he won the Mountaineer Run, Round 7 of the GNCC season. Defending champion Chris Borich took second place in XC1 Pro at the race, held May 24 in Masontown, West Virginia. Fowler gained the lead halfway through the race and sparred with Borich for the front spot until the finish line. Fowler is second behind Borich in points for the season. “Chris is really hard to beat straight up,” Fowler told gnccracing.com. “I could see myself on the box, but I knew the win was going to be tough. When you can get out with a good start and get a lead and make him chase you, then you have a better chance. But to beat him straight up, it’s not easy at all.”

Maxxis riders were 1-2 in the GNCC’s XC2 Pro Am class. AmPro Yamaha’s Cole Richardson won the class and took fifth place overall, while SICC Racing’s Marshall Goings was second for the class. Goings’ teammate Michael Marley won the Junior A 22+ class, while Michael Swift was second in 4×4 Pro. Todd Demaree took third place in Vet A28+.

GNCC Round 7’s motorcycle events were also triumphs for Maxxis, with Mandi Mastin taking second place in WXC and Trevor Bollinger taking second place in XC2 Pro Lites. KR4’s Nick Davis and Maxxis/KLIM/DirtWise KTM’s Jesse Groemm were fourth and fifth for the class.

Craig Delong, Doug Blackwell and Colin Keegan all rode Maxxis to victory in motorcycle races.  Delong won the 250A class and was named Top Amateur for the weekend, with Austin Lee taking second place in 250A. Blackwell won the SeniorA40+ class, and Keegan took his fourth straight 250B class win.

Maxxis congratulates Walker Fowler, Thomas Brown, Cole Richardson, Michael Marley, Craig Delong, Doug Blackwell and Colin Keegan on their victories and thanks all of its riders for their fine performances.
