Rufus Racing Joins Maxxis

Just in Time for King of the Hammers

Powerhouse off-road team Rufus Racing has joined Maxxis tires, with the company’s sponsorship kicking in as Progressive King of the Hammers Powered by Optima Batteries (KOH) gets underway.

The Texas-based team will compete in KOH alongside their fellow Maxxis drivers in the 4400 and 4800 classes. Rufus Racing’s Zandy Willems and Travis Forshee; Chip MacLaughlin and Brad Christiansen; and Pip Justice and Tim Nolan compete in 4400 races. Willems, Forshee and MacLaughlin also race the 4900 class, along with Malcolm McKenzie and Kevin Shafer.

Rufus Racing began just four years ago when Willems attended his first KOH and was inspired to build a team with a group of off-road-loving friends. As the team grew, they became known for maintaining a friendly, generous atmosphere around their signature green tent, in addition to delivering thrilling races to fans. Over just the last year, Rufus Racing has competed in the SCORE Baja 400 and SCORE Baja 1000; the Visions Off-Road 4400 Endurance Race, in which they took podium spots in second and third place; last year’s KOH, in which both their 4400 and 4900 cars placed 19th; the Ultra 4 Nationals, in which their 4400 car placed 11th in national points standings; and a third-place 4400 finish in the East Coast series.

“Everyone at Maxxis is excited that Rufus Racing is joining our line-up,” said Chris Meyer, senior marketing specialist with Maxxis. “We’re stoked to see them at their best in King of the Hammers, riding our Creepy Crawler and RAZR MT tires.”
