Schurter, Courtney, van der Poel on Podium at Albstadt XC World Cup

Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) took first place in short track while SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing Team riders Nino Schurter and Kate Courtney each made the XC podium at the first XC World Cup of the season in Albstadt, Germany. Schurter took second place in Elite Men and Kate Courtney was fourth in Elite Women after narrowly missing third place.

van der Poel made his way to the front to take the lead in short track ahead of a tightly bunched group, with Schurter taking third place after holding the front spot for much of the 20-minute race.

Throughout the grueling XC race and its repeated arduous climbs, Schurter was part of the lead group, taking second after a final sprint to the finish line on Maxxis’ Aspen ST tires. van der Poel joined him in the top ten, taking seventh place.

Courtney and another rider chased the lead for the first two laps, with Courtney, riding Aspen 29×2.4 wide trail tires, eventually earning fourth place. Anne Terpstra (Ghost Factory Racing) made the top ten in sixth place, followed by Linda Indergand (Liv Factory Racing) in seventh.

Round 2 of the XC World Cup is scheduled for May 14-16 in Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic.
