Sierra Romo Finishes Baja 500 on New Sponsor Maxxis’ Tires
Desert racing SxS star Sierra Romo is now sponsored by Maxxis, a move announced the day before Romo and the rest of the company’s strong lineup of desert racing athletes started the grueling SCORE-International Baja 500.
Sierra raced the treacherous 483.6-mile Baja loop on one set of Maxxis RAZR XT tires, knowing that she could count on their superb cornering, steering, stability and traction to carry her to the finish line.
On Instagram, Sierra reflected on her performance and the determination required by her entire team to overcome a setback: “We finished the Baja 500! I took on the start where I went from 18th to 9th by mile 110. From there, @sevenracer got in and kept the perfect pace going. Unfortunately we had a brand new part failure that was completely out of our control. It was a fix that was going to take hours, but instead of giving up, we tore the car apart and got her fixed up. We were determined to get to the finish. After a couple hours of downtime, Victor handed the car back to me at mile 260 and I brought her home to the finish. I owe a huge thanks to my mom and dad, @b_sallee1 & Casey for killing it in the co-dog seat, @sevenracer for helping me get Roxanne to the finish, @sarahjdanbury for keeping my social media updated, and of course my pit crew who spent all day chasing me in the desert. I couldn’t do it without my Army.”
The daughter of fellow desert racer Randy Romo, Sierra began her pro UTV racing career in WORCS and has since raced Best in the Desert, the Mint 400, Parker 400, the California 300, NORRA and other top desert series and events.
“We’re couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Sierra to the Maxxis family, and we aren’t a bit surprised that she had the grit and talent to finish one of the toughest races in the world,” said Chris Meyer, senior marketing specialist at Maxxis.
