Stage Win, Two Podiums for UnitedHealthcare at Herald Sun Tour

With a Stage 3 win for John Murphy and podium spots for two other riders, the UnitedHealthcare Team’s Blue Train delivered at the Herald Sun Tour. The five-stage race was held February 3-7 in Melbourne Southbank, Victoria, Australia.

Aided by his teammates, Murphy sprinted to the lead out of the final corner of Stage 3. Speaking of his photo finish in the 146-kilometer sprint stage to cyclingnews.com, he said that the Blue Train was an essential element in his victory: “I don’t think any sprinter is unbeatable, so if you have the right team in front of you, you can win anything you want. My UnitedHealthcare team was unbelievable today; they took me into the corner in perfect condition, and all I had to do was my sprint.”

Tanner Putt’s turn on the podium came in Stage 2 the previous day. Putt was part of a small group that forced a breakaway sprint in the last ten kilometers of the race. He took a very close second place, a result that the team said inspired their performance in Stage 3.

A late-race break was also key to a podium in the final stage for Jonny Clarke. The native Australian was set up by the Blue Train to join a chase group, and he swiftly moved to the front before attacking on the final ascent to take third place.

Maxxis congratulates John Murphy on his Stage 3 victory and thanks Tanner Putt, Johnny Clarke and all of the riders of the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team for their outstanding performances.
