Third Career Win for UHC’s McCabe at Tour of Utah Stage 1

Team UnitedHealthcare’s Travis McCabe sprinted to victory in Stage 1 of the Tour of Utah, with Jelly Belly presented by Maxxis’ Ulises Alfredo Castillo joining him on the podium in second place. Stage 1 of The Tour of Utah, which runs from August 6-12, was held in Cedar City.

Sprinters were bunched in the final moments of the grueling 168.3 kilometer race when McCabe saw an opening and took the lead, finishing in 4:17:05. “I had the team and the boys to keep me safe and out of trouble for the last few laps,” McCabe said. “Seba Haedo and Gavin Mannion kept me in the top ten with one lap to go, and Sergei Tvetcov attacked and went with the flyer, and he almost held it to the line. That forced other teams to chase and allowed me to sit and about a third wheel. At 250 meters, I opened up the sprint, got a bike length almost immediately and held it to the line. I’m extremely happy to win today and so proud of everyone on the team, both riders and staff. It takes a village and today it showed.”

His victory pushed McCabe into second place overall in the GC, with Tvetcov in seventh place.

Stage 2 of the Tour of Utah takes place August 8 in Payson City. Maxxis congratulates Travis McCabe on his victory and thanks Ulises Alfredo Castillo and all of these riders for their fine performances.
