Triumph for Wienen, Heartbreak for Hetrick at ATV MX Finale

In a surprise ending to the ATV MX National Championship season, Chad Wienen took this year’s title after Joel Hetrick’s ten-point overall lead was undone by a broken chain. Both Maxxis-sponsored riders turned in a series of amazing performances throughout the season, which concluded August 11 at Loretta Lynn’s in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Hetrick’s mishap occurred early in Lap 3 of the first moto, and although he returned to the race on Lap 6, Wienen had gained an insurmountable lead and took the moto win. Hetrick took the holeshot in Moto 2 and never relinquished his lead, while Wienen took third place in the moto. By the end, Wienen held a one-point overall lead for the season and won the championship, with Hetrick in second place for the year.

Both riders raced Maxxis’ Razr tires throughout the season and both were on the podium at every race, with Wienen earning three victories and Hetrick taking five. Jeff Rastrelli earned fourth place in points for the season after taking five podiums during the year.

Maxxis congratulates Wienen Motorsports/Yamaha/Maxxis’ Chad Wienen on his championship and thanks Rockford Fosgate/Ti-Lube/Honda’s Joel Hetrick, Baldwin/Jeff Rastrelli Land Grading/Ford Brothers Racing Honda’s Jeffrey Rastrelli and all of its riders for a season of racing excitement and outstanding performances.
